OPSO Offers Police Cyclist Course June 18-21

Officers from area law enforcement agencies are invited to participate in a four-day police cyclist training course at the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office June 18-21.

The four-day course will take place at the OPSO Training Academy, 819 S. Broad St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except Wednesday, June 20, when instruction will take place from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Each participating officer must have the following: mountain bike, helmet, water bottle, spare tube, full duty rig, eye protection (for day and night riding), patch kit, one pair of bike gloves, and a light system (head and tail lights).

The course will be taught by OPSO reservist Stanley Cosper, Sr., who is a certified instructor of the International Police Mountain Bike Association.

Tuition is $220 per officer and participants should bring a check for the course the morning of the first day. In other words, participants can register online now, and submit their tuition payment in person before the course starts on Mon. Jan. 18.
